Rapunzel      The tale Rapunzel is a well told fairytale put together by the Brothers Grimm. This tale is about how two parents were expecting a child and the mother wanted some lettuce called rapunzel. The witch who had this food next door. The witch took the daughters once she was born and then held her captive in a tower and never let her leave. One day, however, there was a prince that found her in her tower and he convinced her to let him come up. Rapunzel ended up accidentally telling Mother Gothel, the witch, that she was "heavier than the prince" and so she was found out. The prince was tricked and then jumped out the window and blinded, and Rapunzel was stranded on an island. Eventually, the prince made his way to Rapunzel, and they rode off to his kingdom with the twins Rapunzel ended up having.      Now, there have been numerous adaptations of this story.                                        BLUEBEARD                 Bluebeard is a story that the Brothers Grimm, and Charles Perrault wrote about. It is a story about a man that had a great secret. He slowly went through six wives, and we go into the story when he just got married to his seventh. Through a series of events we learn that he actually slit the throats of his six previous wives and was hiding the bodies in a hidden chamber within the palace.                   With all this being said, there is not surprise that there was several different versions of this story. For the Brothers Grimm wrote two different versions, and Perrault wrote his own version. He did his as more of a gruesome and violent version, while the Grimm versions were more mild and less gory. That being said, the Perrault version was probably my favorite due to how it seems like you really are able to get into the story and engage in it.                                                       Hansel and Gretel             The Brothers Grimm collected a fairytale called Hansel and Gretel, and it told of two children that, after some unfortunate events, got encaptured by a witch. They then had to use their wit and quick thinking to escape, and then live happily ever after.              In 1987 there was a movie made on Hansel and Gretel and the producers actually did a pretty good job on getting most of the main ideas correct. They gave the mother direct quotes from the original story, and she is still annoying and cruel even though they never specifically said she was a stepmother. In the movie the witch is also pretty blind, and she gets cooked in the oven as well.                         There are some differences, however, even though most are small.                                            Little Red Cap The classic story of “Little Red Cap” or, “Little Red Riding Hood” as we more commonly know it as, is a well-known fairytale. There is the original version that was collected and recorded by the Brothers Grimm, and it has been modified and added onto throughout the years. For now this fairytale can be found in modern tv shows, books, and is even sometimes mentioned in songs. There is one cartoon comic book that displays this fairytale with a new twist. The book called, “Red Riding Hood, Superhero: A Graphic Novel,” that displays a new more social and feminist point of view written and illustrated by Otis Frampton. It includes Red Riding Hood gaining superpowers from her red cape. This is not the only new and inventive way that writers or illustrators have portrayed Little Red Riding Hood.
